Issue 50.2 — Room Magazine
Send us your best work on any theme that takes risks, refuses, and questions the status quo.
We’re drawn to writing about societal constructs, the various arms of fascism, and everything strange in between, including work that examines prioritizing human-made writing and art in this era of AI. We love essays that squint and question; necessary short stories that reflect the times, yet resist easy lessons; and poems that give us wings to fly towards something greater.
We also seek art of different mediums, layered work, altered photographs, comix, images that bend the familiar or are hard to look away from—surprise us!
Underrepresented writers, including but not exclusive to women (cis and trans), trans men, Two Spirit and non-binary writers who are Black, Indigenous, people of colour, queer, and/or disabled, are particularly encouraged to submit.

Submission Guidelines
- Your entry must be original and unpublished (in print or online)
- Room does not accept pieces that have been written, partially written, edited by, supplemented by, or in any way created by AI.
- We gladly accept simultaneous submissions. If another publication accepts your work for publication, please notify us and withdraw your piece immediately.
- Please do not send a second submission in the same genre until you have heard back from us considering the first one
Payment
- We pay issue contributors upon publication. We pay $50 CAD per page (up to a maximum of $200) + 2 copies of the issue in which your work appears + a 1 year print subscription to Room
- We pay $250 for cover art + 2 copies of the issue in which your work appears + a 1 year print subscription to Room
- We pay reviewers and web contributors a flat rate of $75.
- Room purchases first North American Serial Rights and digital rights. Copyright reverts back to author after publication

Beyond the Hyphen — Ricepaper Magazine
Ricepaper Magazine invites submissions for Beyond the Hyphen, a special issue presented in collaboration with TAIWANfest Vancouver. This is a special collaborative literary project with TAIWANfest 2026 that explores migration, language, cultural memory, identity, and belonging across Taiwanese Canadian and broader Taiwanese diasporic communities.
This collaboration seeks not only to showcase established literary voices but also to actively cultivate the next generation of Taiwanese Canadian writers by creating a welcoming entry point into literary publishing. Beyond the Hyphen encourages emerging writers — particularly those who have never previously published in English-language literary spaces — to share their stories.
Writers are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly. Possible questions include:
- What does it mean to live beyond a hyphenated identity?
- How do migration and colonial histories shape families and communities?
- What languages have we inherited, lost, reclaimed, or refused?
- When do cultural symbols become sources of pride, and when do they become limiting?
- How do queer and gender-diverse Asian communities challenge silence, tradition, and taboo?
- How do we honour the past while imagining more expansive futures?
This issue welcomes work from Taiwanese-heritage and Taiwanese diasporic perspectives. We are especially interested in writing that complicates easy definitions of identity and belonging.

Spring 2027 Issue — pulp MAG
pulp MAG aims to be a safe, inclusive space for emerging KPU artists of all types. We want to give a platform to unique voices with important stories to tell, no matter the medium. At pulp MAG, we especially appreciate the avant-garde; we are ready to push the boundaries of art with you.

Submissions are open to all Canadian writers; however, approximately 60% of the work we publish must be by KPU students

- pulp MAG does not accept simultaneous submissions: if your work is being considered elsewhere, we will not consider it.

Issue 65.2 — Prism Magazine
PRISM international publishes exciting, original, literary material from established and emerging writers in Canada and around the world.
Deadline: November 15, 2026
Eligibility
Submissions are open to all writers, international and Canadian.
Not open to students or faculty of the University of British Columbia’s creative writing program (this includes the UBC optional residency MFA program). This also includes incoming students that have accepted a place in UBC’s creative writing program. In order to enter, UBC alumni cannot have taken a UBC creative writing program course during the previous two years.
Submission Guidelines
We accept simultaneous submissions, and we ask that you let us know if your piece is accepted elsewhere, OR withdraw it from our Submittable.
- Prose
- We accept fiction, creative non-fiction, comics, hybrid works, and literary essays. We do not publish rhetorical, academic, or strictly journalistic non-fiction.
- Our preferred length for submissions is 4,000 words or less.
- Submit only one piece at a time, unless you are submitting flash fiction or non-fiction (under 1,000 words), in which case you may submit up to three pieces in a single document. Please wait to hear back before submitting again.
- Poetry
- Submit up to four poems, to a maximum of six pages. Do NOT submit six one-page poems.
- We welcome cross-genre and interdisciplinary poetry and poetics.
- Translations
- We only accept translations that have been undertaken with the permission of the original author or rights holder, and we will ask to see confirmation of this permission before we publish.
- Poetry Translations
- We pay $45 CAD/printed page plus two mailed contributor copies, and $30 CAD/printed page to the original author plus two mailed contributor copies. PRISM may choose to publish original poems alongside translations, and this will be up to the editor to decide on a case-by-case basis.
- Prose Translations
- We pay $40 CAD/printed page for prose translations plus two mailed contributor copies, and $25 CAD/printed page to the original author up to $200 CAD, plus two mailed contributor copies.
Payment
We purchase first North American serial rights and pay $40 CAD per printed page for prose and $45 CAD per printed page for poetry. Contributors also receive two copies of the issue in which their work appears.

Writers for whom the $3.00 CAD fee is prohibitive are welcome to submit using the Inclusive Access option on Submittable.

Issue 7: Summer 2027 — Eavesdrop Magazine
Eavesdrop is a queer-focused multimedia magazine. Our tone is inclusive, playful, and passionate.
Eavesdrop accepts any and all genres. Space opera, niche cryptid horror, experimental formats, and anything in between. We love genre fiction, especially when it’s done well. However, please note that we will not accept graphic sexual violence, hate speech, or discriminatory works. If your piece contains violence, deliver it with purpose. We recognize that violence is, unfortunately, part of our queer experiences, and we never want to censor anyone’s experience, but Eavesdrop wants to create a safe community for our content consumers and fellow artists. Eligibility
Our mandate is to connect both emerging and established Canadian writers with audiences who care. Submissions for issue 6 are open to Canadian writers (including anyone living in Canada for work, school, asylum, etc, as well as Indigenous artists across Turtle Island).
We prioritize submissions from BIPOC writers, writers with disabilities, LGBTQ2SIA+ writers, and writers from marginalized groups, but accept submissions from everyone. We also gladly accept submissions from artists we’ve published before, but will make a concerted effort to spread the love as much as we can so we can share more voices. Please send us your work, and tell your friends!

What We Accept:
Fiction and Plays
For this issue, we are seeking short stories and short plays of no more than 2500 words.
Poetry
We accept up to 5 poems in a submission. Each poem should be no longer than 2 pages, single-spaced.
**We also accept pieces in spoken word, and it’s okay just to send the audio, but if you have the written piece, feel free to send both!
Creative Non-Fiction
For this issue, we are seeking short stories of no more than 2500 words.
Comics
Please submit up to 3 strips or 1 page.
Visual Art
Eavesdrop also accepts visual submissions. Paintings, prints, digital and physical art, collages, photos, sketches, we want to see it! We are looking for cover art and pieces to put in the magazine.
Note** We accept one submission of each category. So, for example, you can submit up to 5 poems and a CNF piece. PLEASE fill out the form separately for each submission (it will make our lives a lot easier <3)
We accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know as soon as possible via email if your piece has been accepted elsewhere.
All submissions should be original and previously unpublished. We do not accept any work that has been partially or entirely written by Artificial Intelligence or pieces with computer-generated text or visuals.
Payment
In the 2025/2026 fiscal year, Eavesdrop pays the following:
$30 per poem
$70 per short fiction, CNF piece, and short play
$70 per visual art piece
$30 per comic
Reading Fee
There is no fee to submit your work to Eavesdrop.
Response Time
