A novelist is a writer who specializes in writing long-form fictional stories. The process most novelists follow is first planning out a story, writing the first draft, revising until they have a polished final draft, and finally submitting their finished book for publication. Novelists need to be skilled in writing, researching, self-discipline, editing, self-marketing, and meeting deadlines.1
